Dandy Don’s HomeMade Ice Cream participates in the fundraising activities of long established charities like Planned Parenthood, Children Affected by AIDS, Special Olympics, the Concern Foundation, the Starlight Foundation, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
“Hot fudge sundaes are our bullets in the battle of the diseases we want to vanquish,” says Dandy Don’s owner Don Whittemore. He loves to do community service work “because it’s a fun way of giving.” Whittemore also donates discount coupons for ice cream sundae bars to the charities for their silent auctions.
In October Dandy Don’s will be serving hot fudge sundaes at the Children Affected by AIDS Dream Halloween party, Bon Appetit’s fundraising event, and the Special Olympics. “We use the opportunity to promote ourselves and we give of our services gladly,” says Dandy Don. “It’s always better to give than receive.”
The folks at Dandy Don’s HomeMade Ice Cream have themselves a new ice cream truck and they’re just burstin’ with pride over it.
It’s big (about 20 feet long), red (fire-engine style), and hand-painted (by American Sign Company in Van Nuys) with Don’s picture and the gold medals garnered by the ice cream since 1996.
The truck, made by the Johnson Truck Body Company out of Wisconsin, can hold a ton of ice cream-literally. The freezer unit gets charged up overnight and will keep its contents frozen all day. Drivers can take ice cream as far as Las Vegas and Palm Springs.
The big red truck delivers Dandy Don’s HomeMade Ice Cream to restaurants and hotels all over Southern California Monday through Friday.
If you want a visit from the big red truck (along with an order of homemade ice cream), please call us at 800 DANDY DON or 818 994 0111.
Dandy Don’s HomeMade Ice Cream has been busy making ice cream sundae dreams come true for casts and crews of television shows, movies, and plays.
We recently set up a sundae bar for the construction crew who built Jay Leno’s new set for “The Tonight Show.” (Jay has had plenty of visits from us in the past, so don’t feel sorry for him.) We also dished out sundaes for “The West Wing,” “The Weakest Link,” and “Access Hollywood.” The cast and crew of “Malcolm in the Middle” also got a visit from us–one of the perks of working on a show with kids.
We brought a sundae bar to the set of Disney’s new movie “The Dog Catcher” and the film “White Oleander.”
We have plenty of experience catering television and movie sets, and we also went out to serve sundaes recently to the cast and crew of a play called “Pasadena.”
If you would like our servers to create a sundae bar for your set, please call us at 800 DANDY DON or 818 994 0111.
Dandy Don’s Ice Cream recently served 2000 ice cream scoops to employees in the Sun America building in Century City.
The scoops of home-made ice cream were given out as incentives to tenants for complying with the fire drill happening that day.
Dandy Don’s stationed employees bearing ice cream across 38 floors of the building and handed out 2000 sundaes over a six-and-a-half-hour time period. Shwew!
The fire drill was a success.
If you want the happy folks at Dandy Don’s Ice Cream to scoop some homemade ice cream or ice cream sundaes for you, call them now at 800 DANDY DON or 818. 994. 0111.

Dandy Don’s has been serving homemade ice cream topped with hot fudge, nuts, and other goodies to Los-Angeles based television shows and films for years.
If you want the happy servers at Dandy Don’s to bring homemade ice cream and 10-35 toppings to your set, give them a call now at 800 DANDY DON or 818. 994. 0111.

Dandy Don’s HomeMade Ice Cream served sundaes Tuesday night, August 15th, at a reception for Senator Edward Kennedy following his speech at the Democratic National Convention in downtown Los Angeles. The reception was given by Kennedy’s niece, Maria Shriver, and her husband Arnold Schwartzenegger at their Pacific Palisades estate. Savory snacks and pastries were provided by Spago restaurant while Dandy Don’s Ice Cream served hot fudge sundaes to NBC correspondents and Democratic politicians. Arnold Schwartzenegger polished off a double sundae made with Vanilla and Cappuccino Crunch ice cream. Other guests included Brian Williams, Tim Russert, Tom Brokaw, Jim Miklashevsky, Tom Arnold, and many more.
If you would like Dandy Don’s Ice Cream to cater your democratic event, just give them a call at 800 DANDY DON or 818. 994. 0111. Republicans, Green Party members, and Libertarians won’t be turned away.
When producers of the television show “Blind Date” called Dandy Don to see if they could film a segment of their real-life dating-experience show at his ice cream factory, Don said, “Sure!”
The T.V. crew showed up at the plant in Van Nuys on Thursday evening to film the couple making ice cream together. Chea and Jeff helped Don make a batch of vanilla in the large format machine, and then made a small batch of brown sugar ice cream in a home-use machine. Jeff was left drooling. Of course, that could have been because of Chea’s hot pink tube top.
We’re not sure that Jeff and Chea made a match, but we are pretty sure that the show will be worth watching. You won’t believe some of Jeff’s uncouth comments. Or Chea’s figure. This segment should air in about 3 months on channel 13 at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.
If you want to get together with Dandy Don to create some of your own ice cream, just give him a call at 800 DANDY DON or 818. 994. 0111. But you’ll have to bring your own date.
